"To make a great record, you have to start at the source. The source is you, the musician."
All bands want to be great, but most bands do not have the work ethic, training and sometimes even the talent to go that far. There are some who want to go that extra mile, thus I will make them focus on their flaws and weaknesses while playing up their strengths with positive reinforcement. Usually bands have insecurities related to their lack of understanding of their instrument. There is always the initial response of "who is this guy" (unless they are a big fan of one of my former cd's I've worked on). My job is to establish repoir and relationship with the band, break down the barriers of Ego, and quickly get to the heart of the problems at hand. Sometimes that means developing a sound for the band.
